*=Red Trailer, not rated by MPAA hence NSFW. Also +500 Internet Points if you can name the song in the third trailer.
Also hurry up 2010.

Have a Very Craigslist Christmas!

In case you weren't there, last wednesday I had a gentleman show up who was under the impression he had a hot date for casual rough sex with yours truly! Unfortunately for him, I had had nothing to do with the posted craigslist ad, nor the lengthy email conversation that followed, that included my name, address, some saucy photos of me and no end of flirtation and, tragically, empty promises.
Hey guys! Flowers would be sufficient! But, in case I seem ungrateful, thank you and a very merry christmas to you both. Just for future reference, I don't usually need the help in picking up strange men. I consider myself something of a specialist in that regard! And we can all agree it wasn't very nice to waste the time and play with the emotions of some poor lonely chap on craigslist.
Brian, who has been good enough to send me all the correspondence, was a hell of a nice fellow. Just my luck the only decent guy looking for pussy on the internet gets set up on a fake date with me. Or maybe, just his luck. I nearly had to take him back to the apartment on good manners alone! His words, "Please don't think Im a bad guy. I just came because I thought you were beautiful." Now THAT is how you butter a girl's bread!
At any rate, Im sure it will only be a week or two before my young proteges pull their next adorable stunt. Everyone keep an eye out for a kick me sign on someone's back! But my present in return would be to give some free advice. Perhaps they should work a little harder at booking their own shows, and maybe doing something about Matt's wardrobe (ai carumba, can we agree?), than worrying about my sex life, or my club nights. Live and let live, right? And a merry christmas to one and all, especially poor Brian.
Otherwise, we have upcoming events. This Wednesday is our first (but not last) book drive for prisoners. Please bring down your spare books to give the incarcerated something to do with their time. Then Saturday is the return of Dominion, New Orleans' only weekly weekend goth night, in the nice and cozy Rubyfruit upstairs. Then on the 30th, we have our 20000 Leagues Under the Sea New Years Party, the New Years Party with a name! Dress up in steampunk, mad scientist or pirate its all one. I have personally vowed to build the largest sculpture I have made yet - a forty foot squid to decorate the bar. Which I seriously better get started on. Come on out, and we'll see you all!

i⋅ro⋅ny [ahy-ruh-nee, ahy-er-]
–noun, plural -nies.
- the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.
- a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated.
- pointing out to a heckler who is having a laugh because you’ve seen almost half of the Wikipedia list of films set in the future that not only is the heckler in one of the films set in the future, but that this film was in fact heckled by robots in the even more distant future.

A moment to remember screenwriting legend Dan O’Bannon, who left us yesterday:
Dan O’Bannon, one of the scriptwriters behind such seminal SF flicks as Alien and Total Recall, has passed away in Los Angeles following a bout of ill-health, at the age of 63.
O’Bannon was a lifelong SF enthusiast, and got his first experience of filmmaking when he worked as writer, editor and special effects producer on John Carpenter’s brilliant, cynical debut Dark Star. O’Bannon and Carpenter had studied together at USC prior to the film’s 1974 release.
He went on to do special effects work on the first Star Wars film and was involved in the early stages of comic writer Alejandro Jodorowsky’s unsuccessful attempt to bring Dune to the big screen in the mid-‘70s. But it was when he began to concentrate on writing over production and effects that his career really took off. O’Bannon is credited with writing the original screenplay for Alien (alongside Ronald Shusett), and his influence on that film extended to bringing into the fold a certain Swiss artist called H.R. Geiger, who had also been involved in the failed Dune project.
O’Bannon’s other hits included the gloriously OTT Schwarzenegger vehicle Total Recall, an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s We Can Remember It For You Wholesale by the O’Bannon-Shusett partnership. He was also involved in a number of cult classics, including Lifeforce, Heavy Metal, and Screamers, while his Moebius-illustrated comic The Long Tomorrow was the inspiration for the art style of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner.
O’Bannon changed the face of science-fiction (and horror, inventing ‘fast’ zombies in his 1986 directorial debut Return Of The Living Dead), and I’ve been hoping for years that he’d make a return to the big screen (possibly with the perpetually-delayed Silvaticus 3015) to show all these modern ’sci-fi’ writers what’s what.
A public memorial for Mr. O’Bannon will be held sometime in the next few weeks at my apartment in the form of a movie marathon. Interested parties please reply within.

I'm writing on behalf of DJ Leslie (this is her roommate, Suzanne) and she'd like to pass on some info for everyone...
Leslie has been struggling with some pinched nerves and extreme muscle pain recently. Unfortunately, last week her back and neck pain progressed to the point where she was taken to hospital and underwent two surgeries. She's currently doing well and waiting for a bed to open up so she can move from ICU - but her recovery is going to be long term (months).
While this obviously means she won't be able to DJ at the club over the next few months - DON'T PANIC! Jairus, Phil and Devin will be stepping up to keep the night going. She would like to let everyone know that her entire music library will be available every week - so any requests you may have can still be played - and you can expect to hear new music and old favourites alike.
Please continue to come out and enjoy the night, support your DJs and hear lots of great music!
If you'd like to send a message for Leslie, please leave one here and I'll print them up to take to her. If you'd like to visit once she's out of ICU and in a room, please contact me at zannerat at gmail dot com for details.
Thanks everyone - hopefully Leslie will be up and spinning as soon as possible, but for now she would really love to see Jairus, Phil and Devin supported in all they're doing to keep the night going until she can get back.
